GREAT FATS TO ADD:
Avocado, cold pressed organic extra virgin olive oil. Sardines. Walnuts (not too many nuts in general), macadamia nuts, brazil nuts, raw cold pressed coconut oil, cold pressed flaxseed oil, coconut meat. We love shopping local, seasonal and organic where possible.
AVOID: canola oil, rancid nuts, vegetable oil, cottonseed oil, peanut oil, and over-heating your oils. (you might consider taking a break from almonds for now, we tend to have a lot these days).
Other foods to support your WOOD ELEMENT:
Organic chicken, liver, most wild game, citrus fruits - especially lemons, oranges, grapefruit - sour plum, pineapple, star fruit, apple cider vinegar (not too much, some folks say it “pickles” the liver), yogurt, kimchi, brine pickles of all kinds, sauerkraut and olives.
SUPPORTING HERBS:
Herbs can move the renewing process along, and they can be soothing if we experience a detox reaction, such as nausea or headache. Bon recommends supporting our cleanse with one or more of these Liver-Gallbladder herbs, in tea/tincture/powder/supplement format:
Dandelion, Milk Thistle, Turmeric, Ginger, Artichoke, Burdock, Flax, Chanca Piedra (if you have GB stones). Aloe is a great addition for this week (cooling to an aggravated liver.)
ALSO AVOID:
Our renewal cleanse is not about deprivation! But this is a week to limit or eliminate challenges to the liver, such as alcohol, artificial or excess sweeteners, unpronounceable ingredients… again, we are reframing and re-grounding so “indulgence” is differentiated from “excess” - extra sleep can be delicious!
*We are not including ingredients for juicing! If you are making your own, just buy a bunch of great veggies, lemon, and ginger if you like the heat.
